M43 Shoulder boards made of reproduction Italian wool, cotton/rayon mixed piping
and rayon tonque reinforcements.I called them in this way, because this type of wool ( Italian wool) was used after, Italy surrendered (1943) ,German armed forces occupied the remaining military installations and confiscated remaining stocks of uniforms and raw materials. Shortly thereafter, the Germans began using Italian fabrics in the production of their own uniforms and insignia.
Buttonholes are same type as original "keyhole" type (cut
before) with bartack. In this type of buttonhole there is no fabric between the
stitching lines. This is because the cut-before
machine will first cut the buttonhole slit and eyelet, then stitch the
buttonhole. The stitching overcasts the raw edges of the cut, preventing
them from fraying.
